Methamphetamine

A euphoric haze that makes you feel unreal, that’s what methamphetamine causes. Methamphetamine, also known as meth, is a white, odorless, substance that can be smoked, snorted, orally indigested, or injected. Meth causes a high not like other drugs which is why it is so addictive. The side effects can be crucial though. Luckily for us, we now have rehab centers and helplines to go to or call that are willing to help you stop using meth. Rehab and phone calls, life-threatening side effects, and an addictive high like no other are what methamphetamine has to offer.

Meth is one of the most common drugs that causes a high sensation. “Hope is the crystal meth of emotions. It hooks you fast and kills you hard.” (Jennifer Donnely) The first time someone uses meth, it causes a high not like other drugs. This high feels so good at the moment that people want to feel it again so they use meth again and again. This is what makes the drug so addictive. “Among people aged 12 or older in 2021, 0.9% (or about 2.5 million people) reported using methamphetamine in the past 12 months (2021 DT 1.1).” This quote states 0.9% percent of people, young and old, use meth.

Have you ever been angry at something for no reason? How about feeling super anxious? Those are the two main side effects of meth. Meth can also cause a rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, and even things severe as tremors and heart attacks or strokes. “It can make your heart race, so if you have any kind of heart problem, either diagnosed or not, the drug itself can cause a heart attack or stroke.” There are many more side effects but those few are the most common. All these symptoms can be life-threatening and result in death. Meth is the type of drug that makes you feel good at the moment but has severe consequences.

What is the easiest way to stop using meth? Well, most people would say to go to rehab or call a helpline. While those two are efficient ways to help stop people's addiction, you must get away from the provider. If you go to rehab and get clean for 5 months, then get released back into the crowd that was providing the meth, you'll be pressured to use it again. “You have to get away from the crowd to get away from the addiction.” (Unknown)

Altogether, methamphetamine is a highly addictive drug that can cause problems like strokes and heart attacks. It makes you feel so unreal that you want to continue using it so you can feel that high again until you have a life-threatening addiction and end up in rehab. To end this addiction you should go to rehab and then get away from the provider or anything that is tempting you to use it again.
